Freaked out?

Emilia asked:

I am 15 years old, and I have had an upset stomach today. I took some pepto bismol but on the back of the package it says that it is possible to cause reye’s syndrome. I don’t have the chicken pox or viral infections. I weight close to 118 lbs…how likely is it that I could get reye’s syndrome from this?

I dont think you have anything to worry about. Your 15 not 2….its something that is easier to get in small children..not teenagers or adults!

no worries. On all medications they are required to write any possible condition that has ever occured with anyone. Just always follow the correct dosage and have parent’s permission of course. You’ll be fine :)

I have no idea- i say either you go to your doctor, or use something that you have used before.
However you could use some popular brands such as ADVIL, or maybe TUMS.

    Good Luck!

Drug companies have to reveal any and all possibilities when they put a medication on the market for their own sake. It’s to protect them from someone suing them b/c they were “uninformed” that the med could cause probs. The likelyhood that you will contract anything listed on the precautions label is slight but they need to reveal it. I’ve been taking Pepto Bismol since I was a kid and am fine. I don’t care for the taste but that’s it. Calm down. And if you’ll feel better, try another medication like Maalox, Halley’s MO or Papaya enzyme - which helps w/ indigestion and “sour stomach.” - you can get at Trader Joe’s if you have one nearby and most likely any large drug store - Longs Costco, WallMart, Target, etc.
