There is very little possibility of becoming addicted to any over the counter medications. If there was a great possibility, they would not be offered as over the counter choices.
However, you are able to become addicted to the prescription versions of aspirin or motrin. You will not be able to access these (legally) without getting a prescription from your doctor.
It’s not likely that a person could be physically addicted to aspirin or motrin. Neither has the pharmacological action to create a state of physical dependency to the drugs. Can a person habitually take these meds? Yes. Without a doubt. Can a person die from taking an overdose? Yes. However the amount of aspirin one has to take for a lethal dose is in the 200 to 500 mg/kg range.
I do not think they are addictive but motrin can cause liver problems and asprin can cause ulcers.
Anyone can become addicted to anything. It is not always a physical addiction. Many times an addiction may be nothing more than a habit, not necessarily a bad habit. Some people just “know” that at 3:00 in the afternoon they need to take an aspirin because they will be having a headache about 4:00. The side effects depend upon the dosage. Two aspirins daily at 3:00 will probably do no harm and will make your mind feel at ease.
